Day Program

Ottawa-Carleton Lifeskills supports 90 participants in a variety of Day Programs located in the West End of Ottawa. Our goal is to provide training and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in day activities suited to their specific needs, interests, energy level and abilities.

Our Lifeskills Instructors and Supervisors are hired through a process overseen by our Human Resources Department. All Lifeskills Instructors must have clear criminal reference checks, and receive training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR, along with other training pertinent to the needs of those they serve. All interviews contain a teaching component so that their creativity and client interaction is assessed. Instructors are strongly encouraged to have Sign Language, PECS and Bliss in order to best meet the needs of our day program attendees.

Our Day Program consists of several smaller, specialized units such as a traditional lifeskills program, pre-vocational program and a relaxed/sensory program. The Lifeskills program is based on a classroom model. Instructors teach classes on a variety of subjects (socialization, cooking, hygiene, anger management, sexuality, etc).
